Signing of the Joint Declaration on the Elimination of Sexism in the Media



Today, on International Human Rights Day and in the framework of the 16 Days of Activism against Violence against Women, Kosovar Gender Studies Center (KGSC) in cooperation with the Independent Media Commission (IMC) and the Agency for Gender Equality (AGE) sign the Joint Declaration with Radio Television of Kosovo (RTK).

This joint statement - initiated by KGSC, in cooperation with IMC and AGE - was drafted with the aim of advancing gender equality in Kosovar media as agents of socio-cultural change. This statement, in accordance with the obligations arising from the Code of Ethics for the Media, as well as the basic principles of non-discrimination and gender equality protected and promoted by the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo, Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and the Istanbul Convention and other applicable laws, aim to engage and coordinate actors to combat violence against women, gender-based violence and gender stereotypes.

The statement was signed by Mrs. Luljeta Demolli, Executive Director at KGCS, Mr. Luan Latifi, Chief Executive Officer at IMC, Edi Gusia, Chief Executive Officer at AGE and Ngadhnjim Kastrati, General Director of RTK, in the presence of Mrs. Vlora Nushi, who is the Head of the UN Women office in Kosovo.

This statement was also supported by the Acting President of the Republic of Kosovo and the Speaker of the Assembly, Mrs. Vjosa Osmani who addressed the media with the call to become a signatory to the declaration, in order to promote gender equality in Kosovo.

The statement will be open for everyone in the media to sign to voluntary commit to the declaration.
