JOINT STATEMENT ON THE ELIMINATION OF SEXISM IN THE MEDIA IS SIGNED
Today, on the International Human Rights Day and within the framework of the 16 Days of Activism against Violence against Women, the Kosovar Centre for Gender Studies (KPSG) in cooperation with the Independent Media Commission (IMC) and the Agency for Gender Equality (ABgJ) signed a Joint Statement with Radio Kosovo Television (RTK).
This joint statement — initiated by the Kosovo Centre for Gender Studies, in cooperation with the Independent Media Commission and the Agency for Gender Equality — is designed with the aim of advancing gender equality in Kosovo with the media as agents of sociocultural change. Through this declaration, in accordance with the obligations arising from the Code of Ethics for the Media, as well as the basic principles of non-discrimination and gender equality protected and promoted by the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo, CEDAW, the Istanbul Convention and other laws in force, the commitment and coordination of stakeholders is aimed at combating violence against women, gender-based violence and gender stereotypes.
The statement was signed by Ms. Luljeta Demolli, Executive Director at JCSGJ, Mr. Luan Latifi, Chief Executive Officer at KPM, Edi Gusia, Chief Executive Officer at ABGJ and Ngadhnji Kastrati, General Director of RTK, in the presence of Mrs. Vlora Nushi, Head of UNWomen's office in Kosovo.
This statement was also supported by the U.D. of the President of the Republic of Kosovo and the Speaker of the Assembly, Mrs. Vjosa Osmani addressed the media with the call to become a signatory of the declaration, with the aim of advancing gender equality in Kosovo.
The statement will be open for signature by all media, which voluntarily assume the commitments arising from this statement.
